Youth Initiatives Center (YIC) Gyumri is a non-governmental organization founded around 8 years ago by a group of young activists from Shirak Province. Though the province is one of the biggest by size and population and quite an industrialized one among other provinces in Armenia, there is a decreased level of civic activism and youth participation in the region. Therefore, YIC has been working for years to increase youth participation in decision-making processes, to improve prospects for youth employability and to support the personal and professional development of young people in the region.
To achieve these goals, YIC has had conducting training, seminars, summer schools and clubs on such topics as volunteerism, civic activism, cultural awareness and cross-border dialogue, youth employability, professional orientation, linguistics and communication skills, etc.
The English Club in YIC Gyumri is almost as old as the organization itself. It was founded in order to strengthen linguistics and communication skills of young people of the region. It is intended for people of different age groups and holds classes several days per week.
Though the club has all the necessary materials and equipment to organize classes, there is a need to improve the quality and variety of classes, so that the students can also apply this knowledge in decision-making and advocacy. Young people, especially students in Shirak Province have very poorly developed skills in public speaking, especially in English. They don’t know how to start a speech, how to attract the audience and keep their attention, how to sound more convincing, which body language to use, etc.
So the English Club in YIC Gyumri is looking for a specialist in public speaking who is preferably a native speaker in English and who can improve the public speaking and communication skills of the club members.
What we have
We are ready to contribute the space, flipchart, projector and all other necessary office supplies per specialist’s needs.
